I enjoy putting technology away. There are times that I just want to grab a book and sit and read while soaking in some local scenery. It’s about letting my mind heal and generate new ideas, thoughts, and visions. This provides the opportunity to nurture my creativity. I see and experience new things and am able to bring all that home to be part of my world. Going off grid is important to me.
There are so many options for off grid travel. These options give travelers the opportunity to regenerate, build relationships, and relax. Here are some options, but I want to concentrate on van/rv and sailing in this article. Here are some options:
Two of the options than can lead you to camping, backpacking, bike touring, hiking homestays, house-siting, wildlife conservation volunteering, and stays in remote eco-lodges are sailing, RVing, and travel vanning. These gete to where you want to go, depending upon where you want to, while touring spots along the way.

Renting an RV or travel van is a popular option for off-grid travel. It allows for the opportunity to experience RV life before purchasing one. Covid created a market for RVs and remote work, however, I am seeing an increase of RVs available for purchase. RVing is not for everyone and the myriad of options can be overwhelming, renting may be a way of helping making the decision of what is right for you.

Another off-grid option is saling/boating. I do enjoy sailing and enjoy it more that boating. It’s a calming and free sensation when you are on the water. It is a different viewpoint and more leisurely than driving. Again, I think renting if you are new to the activity is important. There are many companies and websites that offer sailboat rentals. I love traveling with my little guy, Chiko. He is a very sweet dog and is much admired for his ability to charm even the most ardent of Chihuahua critics. He’s a wonderful travel companion and traveler. He hates when I leave him home and broads for a day or two before he allows himself to enjoy the comfort of all the attention he recovers from family and friends. So, if I can I bring him with me, I do.
I have been refining my approach to canine travel, especially since I travel with my dog and not my cat. Assam would be highly displease at a change in her routine and is highly indigent when it comes to a pet carrier or outdoor time. Chicko, on the other hand acts like he has won the lottery. He literally bounces off the walls. I have tote that I use to carry his gear and yes, I even have a small stroller for him, and, yes, I am made fun of because of it. It is the easiest way to transport him in comfort along with his tote. I also d my research to ensure that he can stay with me in whatever accommodations I choose and that he can hang out with me on adventures and when dining.
When traveling with your pet, it’s important to consider their comfort and safety. Here are some tips for a successful trip with your furry friend:
When traveling with your pet, it’s important to have the right gear to ensure their comfort and safety. I find that trial and error is sometimes the best indicator of what works for us. I also have to consider the location, length of time spend away, and how we are traveling. We have exclusively traveled by car. Here are some essential travel pet gear items to consider:
Remember to research and comply with any specific travel regulations or requirements for your destination. If you are traveling outside of your home country, make sure you have the required paperwork and documents for ease of border crossing. Additionally, always prioritize your pet‘s comfort and safety when selecting travel gear and remember you may need to tailor that gear to a particular activity.

If you’re planning to engage in water sports with your pet, there are a few additional items you may want to consider:
Remember to introduce your pet to water gradually and ensure they are comfortable and confident in the water before engaging in water sports activities. Always prioritize their safety and well-being during any water-related activities.

Hiking with your pet can be a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors together. Here are some tips for a great pet hiking experience:
Remember to consult with your veterinarian before taking your pet on a hike, especially if they have any health conditions or are not used to strenuous physical activity. With proper preparation and consideration, hiking with your pet can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for both of you.
Traveling outside of the US with your dog requires careful planning and preparation. Here are the steps to follow:
Research destination requirements: Start by researching the specific requirements and regulations of the country you plan to visit. Each country has different rules regarding pet importation, quarantine, vaccinations, and documentation. Check the official government websites or contact the embassy or consulate of the destination country for accurate and up-to-date information.
Remember to start the planning process well in advance, as some countries have lengthy procedures and waiting periods.

It’s happened to all of us. We catch some while we are traveling. It could be stomach issues due to changes in our eating habits, a headache from too much time on the road, or something serious. One of my besties found that he is allergic to lobster while we were in the Caribbean and luckily it was a mild case and he was able to treat himself with Benadryl. He went to the doctor after we got home, which was tow days later. So, what do you do if you find yourself away from home and not feeling well? There are several steps you can take to help manage the situation. Here are a few:
Rest and hydrate: Give your body the rest it needs to recover and make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or electrolyte solutions.
Seek medical help if necessary: If your symptoms worsen or you’re unsure about your condition, it’s best to seek medical assistance. Depending on where you are, you can visit a local clinic, hospital, or contact your travel insurance provider for guidance.
Take over-the-counter medication: If you have common symptoms like a headache, fever, or congestion, over-the-counter medications like painkillers or decongestants can provide temporary relief. However, always read the instructions and consult a healthcare professional if you have any doubts.
Follow a balanced diet: Eating nutritious foods can aid in boosting your immune system and aid in recovery. Opt for fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, while avoiding excessive alcohol consumption and unhealthy foods.
Get enough sleep: Adequate rest is crucial for your body to heal. Try to stick to a regular sleep schedule, even while traveling, to give your immune system the best chance to fight off the illness.
Practice good hygiene: To prevent the spread of germs, wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer when soap is not available. Avoid touching your face and make sure to cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
Notify your accommodation: Inform your hotel or accommodation provider about your illness, especially if you require any special arrangements or assistance.
Remember, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional if you’re unsure about your symptoms or need specific advice based on your health condition.
Sometimes, there is a need for more than just some over the counter medications. More acute medical concerns , may need professional help. If you need medical attention while traveling, there are a few steps you can take to ensure you receive the necessary care:
Assess your situation: Determine the severity of your condition. If it’s a minor issue that you can handle yourself, you may not require immediate medical attention. However, for more serious or emergency cases, it’s crucial to seek professional help.
Contact your insurance company: If you have travel insurance, reach out to your insurance provider to understand what coverage you have and what steps to follow. They can assist you in finding nearby medical facilities or provide guidance on the next course of action.
Seek local medical help: If necessary, find medical assistance in your current location. You can ask your hotel staff, local residents, or use online resources to locate nearby hospitals, clinics, or doctors. In case of an emergency, call the local emergency number (e.g., 911 in the United States, 112 in most European countries).
Language assistance: If you’re in a foreign country and communication is a challenge, consider finding a translator or using translation apps to help you communicate with healthcare professionals effectively.
Keep important documents accessible: Ensure you have your identification, insurance information, and any relevant medical records readily available. This will help facilitate the process when seeking medical attention.
Remember, prevention is key, so before traveling, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the healthcare options at your destination, secure travel insurance, and pack any necessary medications or medical supplies.
Another concern may be how to pay for medical attention. One option worth considering is additional travel insurance. There are several companies that provide health insurance coverage for travelers outside of the US. Some well-known options include Cigna International, Allianz Global Assistance, GeoBlue, IMG Global, and AXA Assistance. These companies offer various plans tailored to different travel needs, including short-term coverage or long-term expatriate plans. When considering health insurance for international travel, it’s important to carefully review the coverage limits, provisions, and exclusions to ensure they align with your specific requirements. Additionally, it’s recommended to consult with a travel insurance specialist or your insurance provider to help you choose the most suitable option for your travels.
Health insurance coverage for medical treatment outside the United States varies depending on the specific insurance plan. Some health insurance policies may offer limited coverage for emergency medical care abroad, while others may provide more comprehensive coverage. It’s essential to review the terms of your health insurance policy or contact your insurance provider directly to understand what is covered and what isn’t when seeking medical treatment outside the country.
